Last time I wrote for y’all (that’s the Texan in me now) I shared my story about what I learned from moving to Austin, Texas on a one way ticket.
What happens after you make the move and relocate to a new town?
I want to share with you the 6 lessons I have learned over the past year, which have put me in the position I’m in today. Living my life to the fullest and going after it!
1. Define yourself, separate from your achievements.
It is fantastic that you have taken the leap, but was it to prove others wrong or to show yourself what you are made of? What do you want from this whole experience?
My motivation was to live my life differently than the expectations of my friends and family. Many times we listen to the people in our lives and although they mean well, they are speaking from their own perspectives.
I wanted to live my life and pursue goals that were most meaningful to me.
I wanted to experience life, and in doing so I found out who I am.
What am I truly capable of performing?
2. Friends will come and go
Throughout my time in Austin, I have met a lot of people who have come and gone. In the past year I have created and maintained a true core of friends. They are my squad, just like the group I have back home. Squads will come and go, so don’t be afraid of branching out and meeting new people.
Not only will you have some new friends, but who knows what each unique person you meet has to offer.
3. Change is good and I continue to experience it
In my year in Austin I have moved two times! Yes, twice! Thankfully getting to move a few times while I am here has sharpened my sense of awareness. Allowing me to get more comfortable with change and accept it.
Change is often looked at negatively.
Change is great to building a stronger and more powerful version of yourself.
4. Be appreciative of your situation
Think about it, not many people can just get up and move to a new town. Its takes a lot of courage and follow through to commit to such a feat. When accomplished, it is life changing. You achieved what you wanted and now you are at your destination.
Be thankful for the grace that you have received from this to move forward with your life. It is meant to be, and now each door you open up will only get better! I am in Austin living my life, it is extremely thrilling and fulfilling to be in this situation.
5. Exploration fills the heart
What is better than stumbling upon something new out of the blue? Finding new and exciting things to do has been too much fun. A year later I am still finding brand new exciting adventures to explore here in Austin. Its so fun to just get up out of my seat and go find something to do.
The opportunities for exploration seem limitless in the city. Just being able to explore has opened my mind to new philosophies, perspectives, and ways of life. Adventure is a great thing.
6. Listening to myself
Only a select few can take on the challenge of listening to oneself because it’s way too easy to just go along with the flow of everyone else. Being able to recognize what you want has been the biggest game changer in my life. When you listen to yourself, as easy as this sounds, you do what you want to do.
You install confidence in yourself to take on any challenge that comes your way.
